A Word About Batteries Hearing aid batteries can be tempting and easy to swallow for small children and infants and pets. Always store and dispose of batteries where children and pets can not get at them. Occasionally, batteries have been mistaken for pills, always verify your medication before swallowing. Hearing aid batteries are dangerous if swallowed. If a battery should be accidentally swallowed, see a doctor immediately or call the National Button Battery Hotline at 1-(202)-625-3333. Zinc-Air Batteries are best stored at room temperature. Never refrigerating hearing aid batteries. Dispose of Properly The new California Battery in Trash Law has now gone into effect. Residents of California are now required to recycle used batteries of all sizes, including hearing aid batteries, at a household hazardous waste facility, a universal waste handler or authorized recycling center. In Salinas that is the Sun Street Transfer Station at 139 Sun Street, (831) 424-5535, www.svswa.org There is no charge to individuals for recycling these batteries at the Sun Street Transfer Station.
